Features

As already mentioned, Razer Viper 8KHz is a top-class product, with a highly sensitive and accurate optical 20000 DPI sensor, devoid of skipping, lagging, and other unwanted happenings. Also, this mouse is fitted with Razer Optical (2nd-gen) switches that deliver an ideal actuation force and more than a respectable longevity, as well as nine fully programmable buttons, including the scroll wheel that can provide up to three different functions.

Button remapping, CPI stage settings, profile creation, or lift-off-distance adjustments (they can be set to 1mm, 2mm, or 3mm) can be done with ease, allowing for easy customization, thanks to the very good Razer Synapse 3 software. In addition, the excellent 8000Hz polling rate, along with the premium build quality and the silent performance, brings nothing less than an amazing experience to the user.

On top of that, this mouse also brings Adaptive-Sync, very low 6ms click latency, and a good CPI range, as it should be the case with one of the best gaming mice out there.

Although Razer Viper 8KHz’ RGB lighting capabilities are limited, you can still control their brightness, or select one of predefined presets such as Spectrum Cycling, Breathing, or Reactive, or create your effects with the help of Chroma Studio that later can be synchronized with a whole bunch of Razer Chroma RGB compatible devices, including this mouse.

Usage

When talking about the usage of the Razer Viper 8KHz, you should know that this mouse deserves only praise in that department, and that it offers very smooth and slick gliding, due to the pure PTFE feet, as well as great accuracy, thanks to its Razer Focus+ optical sensor.

The scroll wheel has well-defined steps and offers very nice movement, although it requires a bit too much force, while the button switches are easy to click; however, they are not too light, which prevents accidental activations.

Although this isn’t a dedicated office mouse, even in that field, this mouse shows pretty good results, allowing for comfortable work for the most hand sizes.

Nonetheless, its main field of work is games, and that is where the Razer Viper 8KHz shows its true nature, offering responsive and smooth gaming. Its key qualities are most notable in FPS and Ultra-light gaming; however, even the MMO fans will have a lot to be happy about, and they will certainly be pleased with its MMO capabilities, even if it’s only nine programmable keys.

Design

In a contrast to its features and characteristics, the design of the Razer Viper 8KHz brings nothing that should amaze you. To be exact, it looks just like the Razer Viper mouse and has the classic, ambidextrous shape, with the discrete logo on top, where your palm should rest.

Its outer shell is built fully out of matt plastic, except its rubberized sides, and the addition of the pure PTFE feet guarantees excellent sliding.

Razer Viper 8KHz comes with nine fully programmable buttons (they are fitted with Razer Optical (2nd-gen) switches) that include traditional right and left buttons, and the rubberized three-function scroll wheel on top, as well as the two symmetrically positioned buttons on each side of the mouse.

The build quality of the mouse is excellent, while the materials feel sturdy and go along with the generally positive impression about this device.

Good

Keep in mind that Razer Viper 8KHz is a top-class product; therefore, its list of positives can’t be a short one. In the first place, its key advantages are certainly the Razer Focus+ 20000 DPI optical sensor, 8000Hz polling rate and Razer Optical (2nd-gen) switches. Also, there is low 6ms latency, a good CPI range, and a solid build.

Furthermore, this mouse is comfortable and easy to use, it brings excellent performance and a low lift distance. There are nine programmable buttons, it is suitable for most hand sizes and it offers very quiet operations.

In other words, Razer Viper 8KHz offers what it is supposed to, and that is an excellent gaming tool that should please even the most demanding players out there.

Bad

Although this is a superb machine with a ton of great characteristics, there are still some downsides that have to be mentioned. These things won’t be deal-breakers for most users; however, they do exist and might present an issue for some of them.

That, in the first place, includes the ambidextrous design that, although very good, makes side buttons, located on the little finger side, hard to reach; therefore, it is a bit unpractical. Also, its cable is a bit stiff, while the high polling rate may be inconsistent and require a high-refresh-rate monitor, which certainly isn’t the best situation.

On top of that, Razer Synapse 3 software isn’t compatible with macOS, and the users with smaller hands might have problems with its practicality.

All in all, Razer Viper 8KHz has everything needed for the best budget gaming mouse, yet some minor issues are inevitable, and luckily, they don’t affect the otherwise perfect gaming mouse much.

Final Thoughts

Simply, Razer Viper 8KHz has everything that the best mouse should, there is an excellent performance, great characteristics, it is comfortable to use, and it comes with the top-class build quality.

To make things even better, this mouse is neck and neck with some of the best gaming mice, such as Razer DeathAdder V2 that offers a slightly better grip, or AtomPalm Hydrogen that comes with a lower resolution, yet a bit better Omron switches.

In other words, Razer Viper 8KHz is a top-class product, with almost no flaws, which makes it a great choice and a great opportunity if you are looking for great performance and value in one.
